Django Unchained is an action-comedy movie, made by Quentin Tarantino and starring Jamie Fox, Christopher Waltz, and Leonardo Di Caprio. The movie set in America, is about a black slave named Django, played by Jamie Fox, who gets freed by a bounty hunter named Dr. Shultz, played by Christopher Waltz. After being freed, he joins Dr. Shultz and they travel around the American south, carrying out contracts and trying to help Django find his missing wife.
I think the movie is hilarious, it is very funny and has well-thought out humor. It also has the usual troupes of a Quentin Tarantino film, with lots of gore, profanity, full of smart but crude humor. The setting is also very provocative, as it exposes some of the darkest horrors of slavery in darkly-comedic ways. One of the main villains, a plantation owner named Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo Di Caprio, is a horrible man who abuses blacks and treats them as objects and sub-humans. Although the movie may not be very serious, it does show the dark side of slavery in the 1800’s.
The roles are very well cast, each actor plays their part very well. Jamie Fox did a great job as Django, perfectly portraying a black slave thrust into the world as a freeman. Christopher Waltz also did a perfect job as a quirky German bounty hunter, really driving home the comedy aspects of the movie. The plot is great, it has a very satisfying ending, and overall I love the movie.
