„ You’re not supposed to look back, you’re supposed to keep going. “

The lovely bones

Honest, funny and brave 14 year-old Susie Salmon was raped and murdered by her neighbor, a serial killer, everything happened in the first chapter of the book. After her death, she continues to watch over her family and close friends from a mysterious personal space where she can have anything she wishes for, except to be with the ones she loves on Earth. While her family is trying to cope with the sorrow and the frustration caused by the police failed attempts to solve her murder, Susie is trying to help her father discover her killers identity. However, eventually she’ll have to choose between her vengeance and letting go so that her loved ones can accept her death and continue with their lives.

The Lovely Bones2

Alice Sebold, who was a rape victim herself, succeeded to faithfully describe the rape victim’s thoughts and feelings as well as the family’s burden and sorrow for the passing of the loved one. She also managed to involve investigative and criminal elements in such a sad and emotional story. The novel is shocking, provocative, startling and tough, but also incredibly beautiful and dear to my heart.

A movie adaptation was released in 2009 starring Saoirse Ronan as Susie Salmon and Mark Wahlberg as her father, Jack Salmon.
