When she was only 13 years of age Hazel Grace Lancaster received a diagnosis from her Doctor, that meant she did not have much time remaining to fulfill her hopes and dreams. She was diagnosed with Stage 5 pancreatic cancer that had, over time, metastasized to her lungs. Despite the struggle she endured to cure herself, she knew that it would all soon be over; experimental therapy could only grant her a flicker of extra time.
Hazel was continuing to fight, but she was very weak. She looked to find hope, which she found in the form of another cancer fighter – a battle that had actually been victorious. Augustus Waters, a seventeen year old, had fought the battle with cancer and won – but did cost him a leg. As she met Augustus Waters, her life changed, in a better way, of course.
